Today I had the pleasure to meet with the original creator of the White Marlin Open, Jim Motsko. I paid the fees; $1300.00 entry fee, and another $27,450.00 to enter the money pots. He is a Great guy, and it is very interesting how he has created a family business. The White Marlin Open is the largest billfish tournament in the world. I also saw the checks that will go to the winners and Miss Budweiser would certainly look great written all over them.

The week began with Rick fishing with us again. It was a nice day and not too rough and we landed a white marlin (around 40 pounds) right before noon. We didn’t get anything for the rest of the day but we did manage to cover quite a bit of ocean...

On July 13 the Miss Budweiser left Singer Island and headed for Saint Simeon Island. She then journeyed to the South Fork and lastly Virginia Beach. On July 16th she arrived at the Sunset Marina in Ocean City, Maryland. Helen and I left on the 12th and had dinner with great friends in Daytona Beach arriving at the Inn at Perry Cabin on July 15th Our stay lasted through the 18th. It is a very special place and if you can make it, we would highly recommend it.

The weather was tough during the White Marlin Tournament. The five day tournament let you choose which three days to fish, which is a good thing, as the second day, the seas were 7 to 8 feet high! Even the commercial fishing boats didn’t go out.

The Bakers Bay Blue Marlin Invitational was our first tournament. The Bakers Bay Golf & Ocean Club is a private resort community in Great Guana Cay. The two hundred slip marina has great accommodations, restaurant and outdoor bar for meeting up to have a cold one at the end of the day. Many golfers play barefooted, the course is that well maintained. Next came the Abaco Blue Marlin Tournament.

The first time we tried to go to Bimini in the newly refurbished Miss Budweiser was a miserable failure. The new Cummins diesel 680hp QSM 11”s alarms would sound after a few hours and 3 times we turned around. Eventually the port battery alternator was repaired and the problem went away.
